Enrolment

Oakbank School takes enrolments from Reception to Year 12. We foster a supportive, close-knit community which upholds the values of Connection, Respect and Responsibility. We support students in their learning to – discover their unique talents, and develop the skills, knowledge, abilities and resilience that are all vital for their success in school and beyond.

Getting the right ‘fit’ in a school is important, as such, we have a detailed application process to gather important background information to assist us to ensure our school is a good fit for your child, and to provide the appropriate in-house and external agency support to enable a smooth transition to Oakbank School. Information shared in the application document will remain confidential.

Enrolments during the year for all year levels are continuous except for:

  • Students transition from kindy to reception, which have start dates of term 1 and term 3.
  • Students transition process from year 6 to year 7 commences from term 2.

Reception Intake

Government primary schools have 2 major enrolment intakes one for children at the beginning of the year (intake-1) and one for children to start school in term 3 (intake-2).

If your child turns 5 years old:

  • before 1 May they can start reception in term 1 of that year.
  • between 1 May and 31 October, they can start reception in term 3 (mid-year).
  • after 31 October they can start reception in the following year.

Year 7 Intake

Year 7 transitions from Department primary schools are managed through the Department for Education.

Transfers and New Applications

The enrolment process is as follows:

  1. Enrolment Enquiry form is completed online
  2. Application is assessed by the sub school Assistant Principal (you may be contacted by phone for more information)
  3. Current school of enrolment and any other relevant people will be contacted
  4. You will be contacted to arrange an interview or informed if no place is available at this time
  5. After the interview you will be informed if your enrolment is to procced and next steps will be discussed
  6. If your child/ren are under guardianship you need to contact the Mount Barker Regional Office in the first instance.

If you wish to visit the school to have a tour please book a Principal’s Tour with available dates.

Documents needed at the enrolment interview

At the interview stage you will need to produce the following documents so that we can make an informed decision regarding enrolment. If the documents are not presented at the interview, the enrolment may be delayed until they are received.

The required documents if applicable to the enrolling student are:

  • birth certificate (required)
  • proof of residential address (lease agreement, utilities bill, drivers’ licence) (required)
  • legal guardianship documentation (if not the biological parent)
  • independent student documentation (students over 16, if applicable)
  • latest academic reports (required for all students in year 1 to 12)
  • custody orders (if applicable)
  • reports supporting the disability verification (if applicable)
  • IESP documentation (if applicable)
  • health support plan and medication agreement (if applicable)
  • visa documentation (if applicable)

Learning Needs
